My name is Nick, I live in Canada, and I vector and sketch ponies from Friendship is Magic!
I started out with ponies when my good friend Seaborgium suggested it to me. I had heard about the pony rave on 4chan and its slow climb on Youtube. I watched the first episode near the end of June on my small iPod at 4 in the morning. I then proceeded to watch until episode 6. I stayed up all night. I went on my MineCraft server and had some conversations with my other friends who watched it. They said not to spoil the amazingness and pace myself, or the magic would wear off and I would be sad when the season was over. So I watched about 2 episodes a day after that.
I made pixel art on my server that day, first was Rarity, then Fluttershy, and Tony made Pinkie Pie in the middle of the lake
It was a fun day, and I realized how much I loved ponies, and pixel art for that matter. So, the next day, I tried for the first time ever, pixel art with Photoshop. This was my result:fav.me/d3l874c
Not that great, eh? When I completed it on June 31st, all I did was post it on my server's thread on minecraftforums.net, and continued to make more pixel art, more of Rarity, then Fluttershy, and then my big Princess Celestia. I was very happy with what I was doing, and proud of it too. I continued on making more pixel art, until one day, Seaborgium said I should try sketching.
So I did. I went on video chat with him on Skype at 3 in the morning and I sat down on my bed, with my shitty sketching pencil from art class the year before, and some lined pieces of paper. I had no idea how to draw. I grabbed my sombrero I got from Canadas Wonderland 2 years ago, and sat down and started to sketch Rainbow Dash.
It wasn't actually THAT bad, but considering it was super early in the morning and I never actually sketched before, but for my first time I'd say it was decent. Too bad I deleted it from my DeviantArt
(If I find it in my files I'll upload it again ^^)
Anyway, so I loved sketching. I would sketch some random ponies every couple of days and show my friends, then I remembered my friend saying something about DeviantArt. I knew I could easily share my images with my friends and other people if I made one, so, I did! And I love it here!
I submitted my pixel art and sketches, some you can find still in my gallery, and I was happy how everything was and is coming! I love drawing and I especially love vectoring! But considering I don't have a scanner I have to take photos of my sketches instead of scanning them, but hopefully I can afford one in the future!
So, in my previous journal entries you can see my Failed Attempt to Buy a Drawing Tablet, which goes through my struggle to find one. I knew they would be expensive but I really wanted to sketch on my computer instead of on paper, where I could easily work with undo and layers, instead of a shitty eraser I had at the time. The following day I went out again and found a Bamboo tablet at Staples, which I bought for 130 freaking dollars. 30 of which I still have to pay my friend back (Thanks Max!
So I began sketching with Photoshop, and boy did I suck a lot. *Shudders*. Don't remind me.
But I started getting better. And so began my vectoring. At first I always wondered how other artists on DeviantArt could make their images exactly like the show, and how the Pen Tool in Photoshop ever worked, but I figured it out by accident. I discovered how to use the pen tool and how to (although crapinly (If that's a word (It's not))) make My Little Pony vectors.
I soon got better, learning new tricks, shortcuts, motivation, and support. I now happily make all sorts of type of art, with sketching, vectoring, a little but of pixel, and digital sketches. I hope you guys enjoy your stay here! And THANKS FOR READING!
